LifeLock

LifeLock has had a pretty great year, and it looks like 2009 promises to bring the identity theft protection company even more growth and prosperity.

2008 Summary and 2009 Projection

  • LifeLock reached the magical 1 million member mark in 2008, just 3 1/2 years after incorporation, and will go into 2009 with just under 1.5 million active members. They expect to have 3 million customers by this time next year.
  • LifeLock’s superb customer service have given the company a loyal customer base. A huge part of the reason the company has enjoyed such astounding growth is their consistent 93% renewal rate.
  • More than 10% of their members are children, probably because LifeLock was the first identity theft company to recognize that children are especially vulnerable to ID theft.
  • Like it or not, you can expect to see more of Todd Davis next year in TV, radio and print ads. LifeLock’s sponsorship of sporting events will continue, and an expanded 2-hour episode of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice will be all about LifeLock.
  • This year saw the introduction of two major new services: eRecon™ and TrueAddress™. The company plans to announce more major new products in 2009.
  • LifeLock formed several new corporate partnerships in 2008, including Office Depot, AAA Clubs, CVS Pharmacies, H&R Block, USAirways and many banks and credit unions. In 2009 LifeLock will be announcing more consumer pilots.

I like the services that Lifelock offers to their members. Having services that look to see if your identity is being sold on the internet is definitely a plus!

This looks like great information, what does TrueAddress do?

It’s certainly refreshing to hear about a business that’s doing well. Do any of the other readers have this yet? What can you tell about it?

Florida Reader, True Address monitors the millions of change of address requests submitted to the U.S. Postal Service every year. Identity thieves often change their victims’ addresses because it gives them easier access to the victims’ mail, and delays the victims’ discovery of the crimes. If customers’ addresses are ever submitted for change, LifeLock catches it and notifies the customer immediately. Ninety-nine times out of 100 the address change is valid, but True Address is another tool for tightening down consumers’ identities.

This company seems to be everywhere. Almost every webpage I click on lately has three Lifelock advertisments on it. Any plans on giving us a breather?

In their four years of existence LifeLock has built their customer base from 0 to nearly 1.5 million customers. Considering how successful their marketing strategies have been, my guess is “NO,” they won’t be backing off any.
