LifeLock review: Identity theft victims’ moment of discovery

There are life-changing moments when time seems frozen, when the mind races, tripping over itself as it tries to make sense of what’s happening.

A loan for a son’s or daughter’s first car is denied because a parent’s credit score has taken a precipitous dive. A bill collector calls demanding payment on a hospital bill in another state. A woman hands her license and registration to a traffic cop, never dreaming that within minutes she’ll be handcuffed and arrested on outstanding warrants.

Those are the moments of discovery for most identity theft victims.

According to a survey by the Identity Theft Resource Center, 82% of identity theft victims find out the hard way that someone else has used their personal or financial information. And the longer the crime goes undetected, the longer it takes the victim to clean up the mess.

There are things you can do to minimize the risk of becoming an identity theft victim. Enrolling in LifeLock’s comprehensive services. If you think you might already have become and ID theft victim, or you might become one, LifeLock will request that fraud alerts be placed on your credit files so nobody but you can take out credit in your name. They’ll request your credit reports so you can review them for any unusual activity. They’ll put an end to pre-approved credit offers that are like a free lunch for identity thieves.

Those are the basics of identity theft protection, and they’re all things you could do yourself, at no charge. Unfortunately, they’re also the things that frequently go undone.

LifeLock doesn’t stop with the basics. LifeLock also provides these exclusive services to all of their nearly 1.5 million members:

My daughter had to drop out of school in 2005 while she cleaned up her credit so she could get a loan to finish. It was the hardest thing she’d ever been through. We couldn’t help her with money for school, but we have paid for her LifeLock (and our own) since then.

I’m one of those who put it off till it was too late. After ID thieves got me, I got LifeLock. For all I know, the s**thead that stole my ID still has it or sold it to someone else who’ll use it again!

By switching to life lock you can be informed if someone was trying to take your identity. But when you don’t know some one is doing that you are in a bad way for a good long time. read what this guy has to say and think to yourself “Am I save or not?”
